Perfection Loop Knot Details

Uses: Ashley described the Perfection Loop Knot as the Angler’s Loop (ABOK # 1017, p. 188). You can create a small loop at the end of a leader or tippet with minimal effort. This loop will lie straight with the standing end. You usually connect a Perfection Loop at the end of a fly line to a Perfection Loop in a Leader with a “Loop to Loop” connection.

Tying it: The Perfection Loop Knot is easiest to tie using your hands. Hold the first loop between your fingers and thumb. Wrap the second turn around your finger and thumb and then between the two loops. Tuck the second turn through the first, checking that the loop crosses and traps the end.

Alternative: You can also tie it through a fly or lure by passing the free end along the path shown in Frame 7 of the animation.

Advantages: The Perfection Loop Knot makes a stable loop. This loop aligns precisely with the standing end. The Perfection Loop Knot uses a “Loop to Loop” connection. This makes changing leaders quick and easy.
