Honda Knot Details
Found in: End Loops, Horse & Farm
Also known as: Lariat
Origin: Ashley described the Honda Knot and Lariat several times (ABOK #227, p. 43, #1024, p. 187, and #1127, p. 205). He thinks that “Aborigines” used the knot on different continents. He also mentions that Mexican and American cowboys used it for their lariats. They called it the Honda Knot.
Tying it: For the Honda Knot Video, we used a flexible rope. It was easy to flip the ring and pull a bight through to finish the Lariat. In practice, they use a more rigid rope to keep the ring of the Honda Knot open and to help smooth sliding. Then, someone pulls the long end through the ring to create the Lariat.
